The safari experience at Kingly Explorer Camp is varied, and includes 2 game drives a day and boat cruises at an additional cost.

Kingly Explorer Camp has an explorer's atmosphere where the focus is on connecting with the wild and discovering its inhabitants through a variety of unique safari activities.

Daily game drives

Game drives take place across 3000 hectares of terrain in the GDP Reserve and are included in the rate. Drives traverse typical savanna landscapes and the river frontage area of the Olifants River. Morning game drives depart before sunrise and evening game drives depart late afternoon. Two game drives a day are included in the rate.

Boat cruise and game drive

A boat cruise in the Kruger is an unusual, yet worthwhile activity in the area. The cruise takes place on the Olifants River and is at an additional cost. Guest can arrange for sundowners and snacks while on the cruise. Included is a 1-hour game drive to the private gate/entry point to the river cruise.

Bush walks

Bush walks can be arranged if travelling as a group or upon special request. Bush walks aren’t included in the rate, but Kingly is flexible.

The average mean rainfall for the year is 350mm, with most rainfall occurring during mid-summer (November – February).

The rainfall generally occurs in the form of thunderstorms where a downpour is experienced, and very seldom lasts longer than a few hours.

The mean average maximum temperatures range from 24.5°C in July to 31.5°C in January with the mean monthly minimum occurring in July at a temperature of 8.5°C.

What to Pack

During the summer months the weather can be hot and sticky, so you may want to pack a few different outfits.

We recommend the following:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Sun hat, sunglasses and sunblock
  • Cameras and binoculars
  • Light, neutral coloured clothing
  • Bathing suit
  • Warm jackets essential in winter (May –Oct)
  • Beanie and gloves – the mornings are cold during winter

What to Expect

Guests can expect a back-to-basics experience, reminiscent of ancient explorers. The entire safari experience is relaxed and wildlife can be spotted from the comfort of camp, congregating around the waterhole.

Mornings start with a game drive and the day ends with a game drive, and convivial chatter around the campfire in the boma. Boat cruises and game drives are a highlight of any stay at Kingly.
